This time of year always inspires a sense of change. Its traditional around the new year to make a list of resolutions that plan a new start.
Chances are though about a week into the new year, you start to think its maybe just too much trouble to keep those resolutions.
We’ve made a list of 5 resolutions that you will want to keep. All you have to do is revisit these a few times over the course of the year. Why not make a plan to do this as the seasons change, Winter (January), Spring (March), Summer (July), Autumn (October).
Follow these tips to help curb the clutter. Mess can be very distracting, remember, tidy room, tidy mind.
DE-CLUTTERING
It’s time to be ruthless. At first this may seem daunting but be relentless. If you haven’t used something in the last year (or maybe even more) you probably don’t really need it. If it hasn’t seen the light of day you’ve spent that entire time proving to yourself that you don’t really need it.
Tip:
Make two piles when de-cluttering each room. One pile for anything that is in good shape that can be donated to charity, the other for items that need to be thrown away.
CLEANING
The very start of the year is always about cleaning. Once the tree is down, the decorations have been put away and the wrapping paper has all been gathered, its time to clean. If you had a party to ring in the new year you may have a little more work to do.
Tip:
Take it room by room, make sure you tackle the rooms that have the highest volume of human traffic flowing through first. That way you get the harder work out of the way and it all gets easier after that. Give every room a really deep clean.
FRESH FLOWERS
You will be surprised by the impact that fresh flowers can have in your home. This is a very inexpensive way to makeover your spaces.
Tip:
Experiment with colours, heights and arrangements to find what compliments your existing décor. Try using plants too if you are happy to look after them all year round.
SCHEDULE MAINTENCE JOBS
Parts of our homes need regular maintence throughout the year. Chimneys should be swept before you light your fire for the first time in the Autumn. Gettering needs to cleaned out once if not twice a year. Boilers should be serviced every year for example. Make a list of the routine maintence jobs your home needs and get them scheduled for when they need done.
Tip:
If you need professionals to do any of the jobs make sure you book them as early as possible to avoid the risk of them being to busy when you need tthem.
PLAN AHEAD
Because none of these resolutions are something you have to o everyday, one of the best ways you can ensure you will stick to your goals is to plan the task out. Make a list in advance of what you need to do to keep your home organized. You can do it monthly or quarterly, check your list regularly and tick of each job as they are done
Tip:
Don’t throw away your list once all of the jobs are complete. Keep it safe so you can use it to help you plan for the next year.
