Make the first night in your new home go perfectly by using our 4 box of first night must haves

Moving home can often be a chaotic time. It’s easy to forget about the practicalities of what you will need to survive the first few days while frantically unpacking a lifetimes collection of ‘stuff’. A little forward planning can make things a lot easier.

Set aside 4 boxes for first night essentials and use our guide below to help you decide what to put in each box

Box 1 – Your personal things

This box is for your personal items such as toiletries. You will need toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand soap, shower gel and any other essential toiletries. You’ll also need some night wear so pack your pyjamas and maybe a dressing gown if your moving in the winter time. Also pack some underwear and enough clothes for a day or two. Pack any medication you may need and a first aid kit. Don’t forget some bedding and bath towels

Box 2- Kitchen stuff

The second box is for the essential items to keep you going in the kitchen. You probably wont be cooking a full meal on night one but a few handy snacks is a good idea. Bread and some canned soup, beans or spaghetti will keep you going. Teabags, coffee, milk and sugar or juice if your not a fan of hot drinks. Include the kettle and a set of cutlery and plates , cups and glasses for everyone in the house. A few essential utensil like a can opener, bottle opener and sharp knife might come in handy. Other handy items like washing up liquid, sponges, bin bags and multi purpose surface cleaner could also go in this box. Lastly and most importantly is a bottle champagne or Prosecco to celebrate your first night in your new home.

Box 3 – Practical  essentials

Its best to prepare for all eventualities when moving into a new home. Having a torch handy and some spare batteries is a good idea. Some candles and an emergency light bulb may also come in handy. Be sure to pack all phone and laptop chargers and any other essential electrical items. If you have a smart speaker this is the box for it. You may also want to put any important paperwork in here too if you think you might need it when you get to your new home.

Box 4 – Kids stuff

Moving home can be very exciting but also a bit over whelming for children. Include some things that makes your child feel safe, maybe a favourite teddy or blanket. A nightlight may help them feel more relaxed in their new room. A few toys, colouring books, crayons and story books will keep your children busy while you move in.
